How it Started
Founded in 2014, and rooted in the Black community of the town, The WorkGroup of Hackensack & Vicinity is a neighborhood organization advocating for inclusive urban design, political action, educational development and infrastructure improvement.
We are citizens with generational history in Hackensack who seek to both welcome new residents and preserve the small community feeling Hackensack was known for.
With ease of transportation to NYC it provides an opportunity for residence to many commuters and weekend getaways, while still being an intimate town of holiday fireworks, community churches and families wanting their children to be safe in the street.
It's a town of single family homes and multi-dweller buildings. It's a city of multiple languages and cultural backgrounds.
We believe all of these can coexist.

We always encourage you, your friends and neighbors to be regular attendees at City meetings. YOUR presence and YOUR voice are what decide how YOUR neighborhood looks. Don't let someone make the decision for you.
Board of Education. City Council.
Zoning Board. Freeholders. It all affects you -- and If you're not in it you can't fix it. These individuals were elected (though some 'appointed') to make decisions for you. Are YOU paying attention?
